Christina Mims

Christina Marie Tuten Mims, 76, of Hampton, entered into eternal rest Friday morning, January 12, 2024, at Magnolias of Walterboro.

Christina was born December 3, 1947, in Colleton County to her parents, Marie Shipes Tuten and Wilson Tuten.  She grew up on a farm in northeast Jasper County in a community known as Horsegall.  As a youth she enjoyed exploring fields and woods in search of wildflowers and Indian artifacts.  She attended Grays Consolidated High School and furthered her education at Savannah University of Cosmetology.  She called Georgia her home where she lived and worked as a hairdresser for 40 years.

In 1987 she married Joseph Mims of Hinesville, Georgia.  She was a baptized member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Savannah.  She enjoyed good music, collected antiques and propagating plants.  She was fascinated with genealogy and local history, enjoyed gardening and her camelias.  Retiring in 2008 she returned to South Carolina and purchased a home in Hampton where she worked as a floral designer with several local Florist Shops.

She is survived by her sister, Joyce Tuten Malphrus of Grays; a beloved niece, Angie Malphrus of Grays; great nephew, Scott (Abbigale) Malphrus of Sylvania, Georgia; great niece, Kaylee (Axel) Malphrus-Cook of Nixville; great nephews, Devan (Arianna) Malphrus of Nixville; 8 great great nieces and nephews; and many loving cousins.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two beloved nephews, Glen “Fry” Malphrus and Benjamin “Benjie” Malphrus; and her brother-in-law, Jake Malphrus.

Funeral services will be held 3 o’clock, Sunday afternoon, January 21, 2024, at The Brice Herndon Funeral Chapel, Varnville.  Interment will follow in Smith Cemetery near Grays, where she will be interred beside her mother.
