Mr. Charles William O’Quinn, affectionately known to everyone as “Billy”, 92, of Walterboro, entered into rest Thursday morning, January 22, 2026, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Mildred “Millie” Drawdy O’Quinn to whom he was married 66 years.
Born December 21, 1933, in Walterboro, he was a son of the late Percy Elon O’Quinn and Icelene Luke O’Quinn. He served his country in the South Carolina Army National Guard. He was a dedicated and faithful member of Great Swamp Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Church Trustee and served as the song director for many years. Mr. Billy was a life member of Unity No. 55 Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Billy was a well-known fixture at Mitchell Construction in Walterboro where he retired after a career as a Superintendent that spanned over 40 years. He had also worked for F.A. Tripplet Construction of Chester, South Carolina with bridge construction. Mr. Billy was known for his strong work ethic and skilled precision in the trade he learned from his father and uncle, Herman Thompson. He had also worked the Colleton County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy under Sheriff John I. Seigler.
Surviving are: his children, Michael O’Quinn and his wife Pam of Walterboro and Sharon O’Quinn of Walterboro; grandchildren, Mickey O’Quinn and his wife Charlene and Brandon O’Quinn and his wife Aimee; great grandchildren, Caleb O’Quinn (Megan), Zach O’Quinn, and Sam O’Quinn; step great grandchildren, Kaden, Kendal, and Alexis; great great grandchildren, Alaina, Ryleigh, and Carter; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to: Great Swamp Baptist Church Building Fund, 3396 Hendersonville Highway, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
Graveside funeral services will be held 11 o’clock, Saturday morning, January 24, 2026, at Peniel Methodist Church Cemetery, 1590 Peniel Road, Walterboro.
