Mr. Charles Samuel Hatfield, Jr., 86, of 219 Overhill Road in the Forest Hills Subdivision of Walterboro, entered into his eternal rest Wednesday morning, December 5, 2012, at Hospice of Charleston in Mount Pleasant
A celebration of his life will be conducted 2 oclock Friday afternoon, December 7, 2012, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.
Born August 2, 1926, a native of Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late Charles Samuel Hatfield, Sr. and the late Minnie Green Hatfield. He served his country faithfully in both the United States Navy and Air Force during World War II. He retired from the South Carolina Parks and Recreation Commission, having served well as a Park Ranger. He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church. He was a master mason holding his forty year life membership in Unity Masonic Lodge No. 55 Ancient Free Masons in Walterboro and was also a member of the Shriners and Scottish Rite. He was also involved in the NCT, Masonic Camping Club. He will be remembered for his love of collecting and constructing model airplanes.
Surviving are: his wife of sixty-four years, Mrs. Bobbie Jean Wood Hatfield; a son, Charles S. Butch Hatfield of Cottageville; two daughters, Dale Bynum and her husband Bill of Brevard, North Carolina and Judie Salisbury and her husband Kevin of Walterboro; a brother, Robert Hatfield of North Carolina; and two sisters, Margie Shook of Walterboro and Eleanor Bell of Florida. There are ten grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild that also survives.
In lieu of flowers, the family has respectfully requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: Hospice of Charleston for use with the Hospice Center, 676 Wando Park Boulevard, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina 29464.
