Charles Stuart Johnson of Beaufort, SC passed away peacefully in Walterboro, SC on September 11, 2024 after an extended illness.
Charles was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 26, 1944. He was the youngest of two children, along with a sister, Sandra Sue Hagemann, born to Clyde Albin Johnson and Alice Pallin Johnson. All of whom preceded him in death.
He moved to Dallas, TX where he attended Southern Methodist University. He was a member of Alpha Tao Omega and received a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. There, he would meet his beloved wife of 26 years, Helen Patterson Johnson, who also preceded him in death.
He later attended the University of Dallas where he earned his MBA. Upon graduation, he worked as an auditor for Arco Oil and Gas, traveling to locations around the world, including Hong Kong, Canada and many trips to Alaska.
Charles proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam war. Serving active duty, he was stationed on Midway Island in the North Pacific Ocean and later in the Naval Reserve.
While living in Dallas, he and Helen were members of Highland Park Presbyterian Church where he served as an usher for many years. He cherished summers spent with his family on Amelia Island, FL where he loved to fish and spend time outdoors. He also loved to get together with friends and family for SMU football and Dallas Cowboys games. In later years, he moved to Beaufort, SC to be closer to his daughter, Rebecca. He enjoyed making new friends, exploring local cuisines and enjoying all the lowcountry has to offer.
He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Johnson of Charleston, SC; Brother-in-laws, Cam(Pam) Patterson of Savannah, GA and Sam(Hilary) Patterson of Arley, AL; Sister-in -law, Becky(Sam) Tift of High Springs, FL; along with many nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
Charles will be remembered for his generous spirit, his smile and kind words for all who knew him.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date in Douglas, GA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Disabled American Veterans or the Alzheimer’s Association.
