Charles Lewis Darnell

Mr. Charles Lewis Darnell, Sr., 72, of Hampton, entered into eternal rest Thursday, August 14, 2014 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 11 am, Saturday, August 16, 2014 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Varnville. Interment will follow in Gillisonville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Darnell was born April 24, 1942 in Charleston and was a son of the late Charlie Horace Darnell and Marie Tant Darnell. He served his country for eight years in the South Carolina National Guard. Mr. Darnell was manager of B.C. Moore’s in Hampton for 38 years and then became the manager of Peebles for two years before his retirement. He was an active and faithful member of First Christian Church in Hampton, where he was an Elder and Sunday School Superintendent. He loved spending time with his family and friends and loved taking pictures of them, especially his grandchildren. Mr. Darnell never met a stranger and everyone knew him.

Surviving are: his wife, Tommie Jean Smoak Darnell of Hampton; children, Lee Darnell of Smoaks, Brian Darnell of Bamberg, Stephanie Gruber of Adams Run, Lisa Crosby of Hollywood, and Tina Douglas of Hollywood; brothers, James E. Darnell of Bamberg, George Darnell of Bamberg, and Mike Darnell of Santee; sister, Betty Jean Boyette of Jacksonville, Florida; 11 special grandchildren; and 4 special great grandchildren.
