Mr. Charles Ronald Cottle, Sr., affectionately known as Chuck, age 70, of Rivers Bridge Road, Ehrhardt, entered into rest Tuesday morning, August 13, 2013, at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 oclock Thursday morning, August 15, 2013, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Ehrhardt. Interment will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Highway 641, Sycamore.
Born April 5, 1943, a son of the late Henry Columbus Cottle and the late Estelle Oldham Cottle and a native of Alamance County, North Carolina he made the Ehrhardt Community his home for the past thirty-five years. He served his country faithfully in the United States Marine Corp where he was a Staff Sergeant who served during the Vietnam Era and was awarded the prestigious Purple Heart. He was a truck driver for Byrd Motor Line in Lexington, North Carolina and had also worked with sweet potatoes at Gallops Farm in Ehrhardt. He was a member of Alamance Evangelical Lutheran Church and was also a life member of the National Rifle Association. He was an avid fisherman who loved fishing both local fresh water creeks, rivers, and ponds as well as larger offshore salt water fish. He also loved hunting large game American Whitetail deer and will also be remembered for his love in raising honey bees.
Surviving are: his wife of thirty-two years, Mrs. Janie Morris Cottle; three sons, Allen Gunnells and his wife Lee Illa of Boiling Springs, Henry Gunnells and his wife Ellender of Swansea, and Chuck Cottle, Jr., and his wife Teresa of Burlington, North Carolina; five daughters, Rita Owens and her husband Marshall of Blackville, Pud Searson and her husband Jody of Barnwell, Nettie Martino and her husband Tom of Egg Harbor City, New Jersey, Wendy Murphy of Graham, North Carolina, and Cindy Rudd and her husband John of Richmond, Virginia; and two brothers, Billy Wayne Isley and his wife Shelby of Snow Camp, North Carolina and Ray Cottle and his wife Janice of Graham, North Carolina. There are twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild that also survives. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Terry; a brother, Toby Cottle, Jr.; and a grandson, Chris Gardner.
