Mrs. Cathy Gillispie Bryan, age 61, of 737 Enoch Road, Ruffin, entered into eternal rest, surrounded by her loving family, Wednesday morning, March 11, 2009, at her residence under the care of Winyah Hospice of Walterboro.



The relatives and friends of the Bryan family are invited to attend her funeral services 11 oclock Saturday morning, March 14, 2009, from Bethel United Methodist Church " Ruffin Charge, 16147 Lowcountry Highway, Ruffin, with The Reverend James Grubb and The Reverend Carolyn Malphrus officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family has requested that members of the Caring and Sharing Circle of Bethel United Methodist Church and members of Women Involved in Rural Electrification (WIRE) serve as honorary escorts.



Mrs. Bryan, a daughter of the late Ira Wilford Gillispie and the late Julia Judy Hiers Gillispie, was born September 17, 1947, while her father was stationed at Parris Island. She was a retired agent with Dantzler Insurance Agency in Walterboro. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, where she was active in many aspects of the churchs work. At her church, she was a member of the Caring and Sharing Circle, Board of Directors, Trustee Board, Cemetery Committee, and the Henry Ulmer Sunday School Class. She was also a Counselor for the Methodist Youth Fellowship, and was a Sunday School Teacher in many of the churchs Sunday School Classes.



An active and well known woman in the community, she was a person who was always willing to serve where she could help. She was a member of Women Involved in Rural Electrification (WIRE) at Coastal Electric Cooperative where she had served the group as President, and had the honor of that year leading the group to receive a National Title. She was also a dedicated volunteer and heavily involved with the Colleton County Relay for Life. She will be remembered by all for the love she possessed for her family, especially her grandchildren.



Surviving are: her husband of forty-four years, Mr. James William Bryan, Jr.; two sons, James William Jamie Bryan, III, and his wife Kimberly and Matthew Davis Bryan and his wife Ashley, all of Ruffin; two brothers, Bruce Gillispie and his wife Sandy of Walterboro and Patrick Gillispie and his wife Leslie of Whitwell, Tennessee; and a sister, Mary Sue Gillispie and her companion Frank Osegueda of North. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Wesley, Julie, and Walker Bryan; as well as several Aunts, Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins, to include special cousins, Ree Driggers and her husband Charlie.



Flowers will be accepted, or for those that wish, the family has suggested that memorials be directed in her memory to the following: Colleton County Relay for Life, for help in Head and Neck Cancer Research, 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, North Charleston, South Carolina 29406; or to, Winyah Hospice, 203-A Eddie Chasteen Drive, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
