Mr. Eugene Carroll Barwick, Sr., age 74, entered into rest Friday afternoon, June 19, 2015, at his home on Pellum Road in Walterboro, while surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Hospice of Charleston. He was the husband of fifty-one years to the late Mrs. Bessie Mae Strawn Barwick at the time of her death in 2011.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 o’clock Tuesday morning, June 23, 2015, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow on the family plot in Live Oak Cemetery, South Jefferies Boulevard, Walterboro.
Born May 26, 1941, a native and lifelong resident of Colleton County, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Andrew Jackson Barwick and the late Lizzie Bernice Stanfield Barwick. Carroll was known for his strong work ethic and also as a man of all trades, always well able to accomplish and succeed at anything he put his mind to. He was the owner of Carroll Barwick’s Welding, a company which he operated with great success for many years. He will be remembered for his avid love of fresh water fishing, Nascar Motor Sports and as a wonderful provider who always centered his life around his family.
Surviving are: a son, E. Carroll “Boogie” Barwick and his wife Myra of Islandton; seven daughters, Patricia “Sissy” Weatherford and her husband Bryan of Walterboro, Arretha Zeigler of Walterboro, Faye B. Howard and her husband Tom of Walterboro, Kaye B. Syfrett and her husband Jimmy of Walterboro, Mary Gail Stynchcomb and her husband Stephen of Walterboro, Annette Guinn and her husband Darrell of Walterboro and Heather B. Massey and her husband Richard of Walterboro; four sisters, Jane Hughes of Kingston, North Carolina, Marguerite Newman of Ponteverda, Florida, Nell Walters of Walterboro, and Miriam Smith of Austin, Texas; and a brother, Joe Barwick of Walterboro. There are eight grandchildren, Amanda Weatherford Peeples, Matthew Weatherford, Shane Zeigler, Kennedy Gibson, Hannah Syfrett, Christopher McDonald, Justin Guinn, and Jessep Stynchcomb; and eight great-grandchildren that also survive. He was preceded in death by his oldest grandchild, Brandon Barwick; two brothers, Jack Barwick, and George Barwick; and a sister, Elma Bachelor.
Flowers will be accepted, or for those that wish, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to the following: Hospice of Charleston, 4975 Lacross Road, Suite 200, North Charleston, South Carolina 29406; or to Charleston Cancer Center, 2910 Tricom Street, North Charleston, South Carolina 29406.
The family will be at the residence, 477 Pellum Road, Walterboro.
