Carolyn George Hunt

Mrs. Carolyn George Hunt, age 90, of Smoaks, entered into rest Monday afternoon, August 31, 2020, at the Saint George Health Care Center.   She was the wife of the late Mr. Leonard Hunt.

Born February 18, 1930, in Bamberg, South Carolina, she was the only child of the late William Duncan George and the late Lessie Mae Carter George.  She was a retired supervisor from Smoaks Manufacturing.  A lifelong member of Little Swamp United Methodist Church in Smoaks, she was active in many aspects of the church’s work, having been devoted to many committees over the years and was a member of the Little Swamp United Methodist Woman.    Carolyn was an icon in her beloved community.  She was the example of a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  In retirement, she enjoyed the flea markets at Springfield and became a Saturday fixture and dearly loved her interactions with the people she met.  Another part of her life she held in high regards was her involvement with Voter Registration and being a poll worker in the Little Swamp Community.

Surviving are: a son, Duncan George Hunt and his wife Cindy of Walterboro; a daughter Billie George Shoupe of Walterboro; four grandchildren, Robin Shoupe Crosby and her husband Bryan, Jennifer Hunt Craven and her husband Will, Casey Shoupe and his wife Leigh-Ann, and Duncan G. Hunt, II and his wife Jamie; six great grandchildren, Kenleigh Crosby, Caden Crosby, MaKayla Craven, Colten Hunt, McKenzie Craven, and Avery Shoupe; and a devoted and very special friend, Rev. Herbert Thomas.  She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Ron Shoupe.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to the following:  The Alzheimer’s Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, Illinois 60601; or to, Little Swamp United Methodist Church, 16438 Hunters Chapel Road, Smoaks South Carolina 29481.

A graveside committal service with only her family in attendance will be held 10 o’clock Thursday morning, September 3, 2020, in Little Swamp United Methodist Churchyard.  The Reverend Dr. Scott Wachter officiating.
