Carolyn Connelly

d. August 5, 2024

Walterboro, South Carolina

Mrs. Carolyn Thompson Connelly, 84, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Monday afternoon, August 5, 2024, at Colleton Medical Center.  She was the wife of the late Monroe Dean Connelly.

Carolyn Connelly, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. As we reflect on the years she graced this world, we remember a woman whose presence was a beacon of kindness, love, and unwavering dedication.

Carolyn was not only a devoted wife, a loving mother, a cherished grandmother, and a doting great-grandmother, but she was also a remarkable individual whose impact stretched far beyond her immediate family. Her life was a tapestry woven with threads of compassion, joy, and a boundless spirit of adventure. She loved her church family at Doctor's Creek Baptist Church, which was a source of joy and fellowship for her and her family. At her beloved church, she was a member of the King’s Daughters Sunday School Class and the Women’s Missionary Union.  She was also a member of the Gladys Whiddon Garden Club.

In her professional career, Carolyn stood out for her kindness and empathy. She approached each client with a genuine care and respect that set her apart. Her ability to listen and understand was a testament to her character, and those who had the privilege of working with her knew they were not just clients but valued individuals deserving of her utmost attention and care.

To her family, Carolyn was a pillar of love and support. As a mother, she was a guiding light, nurturing her children with wisdom and affection. As a grandmother and great-grandmother, she filled their lives with stories, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Her devotion to her family was evident in everything she did, and her legacy is etched in the hearts of her loved ones.  Her three grandchildren Jordan, Jackson, and Andrew were her biggest joys in life.  The love she felt and bestowed upon them will forever be remembered. She was also blessed with three great grandchildren, Kane, Greyson and Finley.

Carolyn and her husband of 55 years, Dean were able to travel in the US and abroad during their retirement years. She embraced the world with open arms, exploring new places and meeting new people. She also inspired her three children Tony, Ronny, and Kristi to travel and experience the world outside of SC.  She may have been a small-town girl from rural Mississippi, but she had big dreams for herself and her family. Another one of her favorite hobbies was line dancing.  She danced and performed with a local group for over 20 years.  She enjoyed the friendships within the group and performing in her community of Walterboro, South Carolina.

Surviving are: her children, Ronald “Ronny” Connelly and his wife Shjuanna of Walterboro and Kristin Connelly Mumford of Columbia; grandchildren, Jordan Mumford of Nashville, Tennessee, Jackson Mumford of Atlanta, Georgia, and Andrew Connelly of Columbia; great grandchildren, Kane, Greyson and Finley; brother, Kenneth Thompson and his wife Patsy of Puckett, Mississippi; and sister, Martha Jo Wiggins of Brandon, Mississippi.  She was preceded in death by her son, Anthony “Tony” Connelly; brother, Thomas Thompson; and sisters, Lillian Baldwin and Janice Curtis.

As we say goodbye, we find solace in the countless ways Carolyn touched our lives. Her kindness, wisdom, and love will continue to inspire us. Though she may no longer be with us in person, her spirit lives on in the cherished memories we hold and the values she imparted.

Carolyn Connelly was a woman who embraced life with grace and generosity. Let us honor her memory by carrying forward the lessons she taught us and the love she so freely gave. May we all strive to live with the same compassion, adventure, and dedication that defined her remarkable life.

Rest in peace, Carolyn. Your legacy of love and kindness will forever remain in our hearts.
