Carol Franklin

d. May 27, 2010

Mrs. Carol Ann Avant Franklin, 63, of 474 Lakeshore Drive, Walterboro, entered into her state of eternal rest Thursday afternoon, May 27, 2010, at a Charleston area hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 oclock Sunday afternoon, May 30, 2010, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Hendersonville Highway, Walterboro. The family has requested that the administration and staff of the Colleton Medical Center Operation Room serve as honorary escorts, and would need to assemble at the funeral chapel at 2:30 that afternoon.

Mrs. Franklin was born July 21, 1946, in Summerville and was a daughter of the late Otis Carlisle Avant and the late Caroline Janesse Hutson Avant. Her career was her main dedication in life. Through her work and the forty-four years that she dedicated herself to the Operating Room of Colleton Medical Center she comforted thousands of people and countless others along with their families and always went an extra step for anyone that she could, and co-workers and friends always affectionately referred to her as Momma for her ever present way of holding things together. Her ability to always out-perform herself was the reason for being awarded with the high honor of the Frist Award, a humanitarian award offered by the Administration of the hospital to excelling staff members; as well as receiving the forty year award. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Round O.

Surviving are: her husband of forty-five years, Mr. George Allen Franklin; a son, John Allen Franklin and his wife Alex of Cottageville; two daughters, Debbie Franklin Rufert and her husband Chris of Charlotte, North Carolina and Jenice Franklin of Asheville, North Carolina; two brothers, Harry Avant of Summerville and Otis Avant, Jr. of Florida; and her mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Frances Franklin of Rockwood, Tennessee. There are eight grandchildren, Miranda, Cody, Ashley, Braedon, Jared, Katelyn, Christopher, and Connor that also survive.

Flowers will be accepted, or for those that wish, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to: Colleton County Relay For Life, 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, North Charleston, South Carolina 29406.
