Carl Headden

September 28, 1942 — February 16, 2012

Mr. Carl Headden, 69, of Hayden Street, Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Thursday, February 16, 2012 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 2 pm, Sunday, February 19, 2012, at Bedon Baptist Church, 2410 Cottageville Highway, Walterboro. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Headden was born September 28, 1942 in Walterboro and was a son of Iva Lee Stutts Headden and the late Northen Headden. He retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard, where he worked for 28 years. He then opened Coastal Alternator and Starter Service and has been the owner and operator for over 20 years. He was a member of Bedon Baptist Church, where he was a former Deacon and was a member of Unity Masonic Lodge No. 55 in Walterboro. He was also an avid fisherman.

Carl was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, who dedicated his life to taking care of his family. He was a true "Colletonian" in every sense of the word. He never hesitated to voice his opinion at the county level or the state level if he felt it was in the best interest of his community.

Surviving are: his wife of 49 years, Dale Adkins Headden of Walterboro; mother, Iva Lee Headden of Walterboro; daughters, Shawne Headden Sheffield and her husband Ricky of Walterboro and Michelle Headden Camburn and her husband Paul of Walterboro; brothers, Alroy Headden and his wife Janis of Round O and Mitchell Headden of Walterboro; sisters, Joyce Crosby and her husband H.E. of Walterboro, Joanne Waldrop and her husband Theron of North Augusta, and Lorine Addison and her husband George of Cottageville; grandchildren, Ericka "Riki" Sheffield and Joshua P. Thomas; step grandchildren, Richard Sheffield and Andrea Michel; 2 great grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Headden; and his mother and father-in-law whom he loved dearly, Fran "Jack" and Dexter Adkins.
