Mr. Buril Frederick Dempsey, affectionately known as “Freddie”, 84, of Varnville, entered into eternal rest Sunday morning, July 2, 2023, at Memorial Health Hospital in Savannah.
Born November 5, 1938, in Varnville, he was a son of the late Frank Dempsey and Thelma Freeman Dempsey. He served his country in the United States Army and was in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a retired highway construction superintendent. Freddie was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed working in his garden and was well known for his red rose bushes; as well as taking care of his yard, always making sure it looked like a golf course. He loved his family and was a devoted and loving father.
Surviving are: his children, Kim Dempsey of Varnville and Sidney Dempsey and his wife Joni of Barboursville, Virginia; grandchildren, Devin Gibson and Kaylee Gibson; brother, Frank “Aaron” Dempsey of Varnville; sister, Nadine Linderman and her husband Roger of Jesup, Georgia; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, JW Dempsey, Pansy Wooten, and Valerie Griner.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Deep Branch Baptist Church or to The Wounded Warrior Project.
A memorial service will be held 12 noon, Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Deep Branch Baptist Church. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation prior to the service beginning at 11 o’clock.
