Mrs. Blanche Rhode Breland, 84, formerly of Sidney's Road in Round O and a recent resident of Crossville, Tennessee, entered into rest Monday afternoon, June 30, 2014, at Cumberland Hospice. She was the loving wife of the late Mr. James Marshall Breland.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 o'clock Saturday morning, July 5, 2014, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Kinsey Cemetery, Round O.
The family will receive friends prior to the funeral ceremony Saturday morning beginning at 10 o'clock at the funeral home.
Born June 6, 1930, having been a daughter of the late Clyde Rhode and the late Lenore Kinsey Rhode, she was a native of Detroit, Michigan and had been resident of Round O since early childhood. In the earlier years of her life, she had worked for the cook theater in Walterboro and then retired as a cashier from Bi-Lo where her pleasant smile became a welcoming icon to the locals of a town she dearly loved. She was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church in Cottageville where she sang in the choir. Blanche loved music with all of her heart and was known by many as the "Angel of Bluegrass", having performed in her younger years in numerous variety shows in Walterboro, sang with the band known as "Momma and the Boys" and in recent years had recorded her own sound track. She was an extremely talented Dobro player. Her smile was a constant of her never ending love for others.
Surviving are: a daughter, Penny Breland Skinner and her husband Thomas of Crossville, Tennessee; a son, Marshall Sands Breland and his wife Tammy of Walterboro; a brother; James Rhode and his wife Pat of Walterboro; and a daughter-in-law, Ruth Breland of Crossville, Tennessee. There is a granddaughter, Amy Breland Burdick and her husband Mike as well as a great grandchild, Ashton Brady Burdick. She was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Marshal Ella Breland and Marsha Ann Breland; and a son who was tragically taken during active duty, Colleton County Sherriff's Deputy, Stephen Anthony Breland.
