Mr. William Edward Crews, affectionately known by all as “Billy”, age 75, of 6202 Yemassee Highway near Cummings, entered into rest Tuesday morning, June 4, 2013, at his residence under the care of Hospice Care of South Carolina following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 o’clock Thursday morning, June 6, 2013, from Deep Branch Baptist Church. Fisher Road, Cummings. The Reverend Glen Samples and The Reverend Dr. Thomas Kelly officiating. Interment will follow in the churchyard.

Born April 3, 1938, a native and lifelong resident of the Cummings community of Hampton County, South Carolina, he was a son of the late G. Benjamin Crews and the late Alice Peeples Crews. Billy was a well known and well loved part of the community and county. He had been a mechanic for more than fifty years who specialized in the rebuilding and repair of alternators and starters. It was through that love of mechanic work that he founded and operated Hampton Auto Electric. Billy also ran a wrecker service.

Billy was well loved and respected by all of his family and friends. He was a caring, generous, and fun loving man whose hobbies included fishing, drinking coffee, and socializing with family and friends. His death will be a great loss to all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of fifty-four years, Mrs. Marjorie Murdaugh Crews; two daughters, Debra Crews Freeman and her husband Mike of Hampton and Patricia C. Kollar and her husband Albert of Cummings; two sons, Edward Crews and his wife Deborah Jean of Cummings and Bryan Crews and his wife Patty of Yemassee; and two sisters, Audrey C. Mosley of Hampton and Hazel C. Mole and her husband Ernest of Cummings. There are eight grandchildren, Erin Long and her husband Rett, Kayla Freeman, Valorie Crews, Colton Crews, Nikki Kollar Haulbrooks and her husband Tyler, Nicco Kollar, Holly Trogdon, and Seth Beaver, and one great grandson, Rich Long; as well as two longtime friends, George Capers and Bill Massengale that also survive. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Crews of Walterboro and Denver Crews of Cummings.
