Mrs. Betty Hilton Rhode, 66, of 2630 Hughes Drive, Cottageville, entered into her state of eternal rest Monday evening, May 3, 2010, at Roper Hospital in Charleston after a brief illness. She was the widow of Mr. Edward Ashton Rhode.



Funeral services will be conducted 11 oclock Thursday morning, May 6, 2010, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro with The Reverend Sidney Mims officiating. Interment will follow in Jacques Cemetery, Augusta Highway, Cottageville.



Mrs. Rhode was born August 2, 1943 in Dorchester, South Carolina and was a daughter of Mrs. Ethel Fralix Hilton and the late Mr. Richard Noel Hilton. In her earlier years, she was a seamstress at Country Miss Sewing Factory in Walterboro and then worked for The Press and Standard in Walterboro where she retired as the Circulation Director. After retirement, Bettys desire and commitment to hard work continued, and she was currently running a route for The Press and Standard. She was an active member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church in Cottageville. At her church, she was active in the Sanctuary Choir and the Adult Sunday School Class and had formerly served on various committees and groups within the church. For many years, she served as the Committee Chair and Sexton of the Jacques Cemetery.



Betty was devoted to her family, whom she centered her life around, and the greatest joy in her life was her family, children, and grandchildren. She shared an avid love for music. Most weekends she could be found with her family and friends as well as at various musical gatherings.



Surviving in addition to her mother of Dorchester are: three daughters, Paula Rhode Craven and her husband Rusty of Cottageville, Rhonda Rhode McGhie and her husband Bobby of Cottageville, and Robin Rhode Stone and her husband Richard of Cottageville; her fianc, Mr. Lawrence Linder of Smoaks; a brother, Richard Noel Dickie Hilton of Dorchester; and two sisters, Elizabeth Hilton Wolfe of Dorchester and Linda Hilton Heaton of Reevesville. There are six grandchildren, Brandon Russell Craven, Tyler Robert McGhie, Lindsey Danielle Craven, Ryan Charles McGhie, Macie Laine Stone, and Ashton Michael Stone.



Flowers will be accepted, or for those that wish, the family has respectfully requested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to: Rehoboth United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 386, Cottageville, South Carolina 29435.
