Betty Reeves

December 2, 1930 — October 31, 2015

Mrs. Betty Young Reeves, age 84, of Center Street in Forest Hills of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Saturday evening, October 31, 2015, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.  She was the loving wife of forty-seven years to the late Mr. James Weldon “Jim” Reeves, Jr.

Family and friends are invited to call during her visitation Tuesday afternoon, November 3, 2015, beginning at 2 o’clock prior to the funeral service which will be conducted at 3:30pm at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.  The Reverend Daniel Cooper and The Reverend Ben Langdale officiating.  Interment will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.

Born December 2, 1930, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Walter Marshall Young and the late Willew Simmons Young.  She received her Master’s degree in Social Work and the obtained her PhD in Marriage Counseling, both of which she used throughout her life to benefit others.  Helping others was her greatest passion in life, and through her career, she helped countless children and adults with her many years as a social worker having retired from the Department of Social Services.   Upon first moving to Walterboro, she was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in the Historic District of Walterboro, before moving her membership to Living Word Outreach Ministries, and was currently attending Rock Solid Church Ministries, Inc.   She was truly a servant of God, devoting her time to worship and being a devout prayer warrior.  She possessed a special love and beautiful talent with arranging flowers and over the years has held memberships and had involvement with many of the area flower clubs.   Also, she has been active with senior groups, provided meals and organizing arts and crafts times with various groups.   She was a member of the Order of The Eastern Star.

Surviving are: her son, James Marshall Reeves of St. George; and a daughter, Cynthia Lew Reeves of St. George.  She is survived by many cousins to include Mrs. Rebekah Gillam as well as a host of beloved friends whom she considered her own.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in her memory to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Post Office Box 1893, Memphis, Tennessee 38101-9950.
