POLK, Betty Ann

ISLANDTON " Mrs. Betty Ann Mixon Polk, 62, of 2178 Ashton Road, Islandton, entered into eternal rest Saturday morning, September 13, 2008, at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston surrounded by her loving family.



Funeral services will be conducted 11 oclock Tuesday morning, September 16, 2008, from Rice Patch Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, 15246 Sniders Highway, Islandton with The Reverend Jim Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family has requested that the deacons and elders of the church serve as honorary escorts.



Mrs. Polk was born April 10, 1946, in Hampton County, South Carolina and was a daughter of the late Gassie Mixon and the late Annie Priester Mixon. She retired from the United Sates Postal Service, where she was the postmaster for the Islandton Post Office. An active member of the Islandton Community; she was a member of Rice Patch Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, where she was currently acting President of the Christian Womens Fellowship. At her church, she has been the church Treasurer and a Sunday School Teacher for many years as well as having been active in several areas of the churchs work. She was also the current Treasurer of the Islandton Community Center. Betty Ann will be remembered for her love of doing good deeds for others, as an excellent Southern cook, and her love for all; especially her family whom she adored and her cats.



Surviving are: her husband of forty-six years, Mr. Charles William Polk, Sr.; a son, Charles William Polk, Jr. and his wife Donna of Bloomingdale, Georgia; a daughter, Karen Polk Bishop and her husband Chuck of Aiken; a brother, James Mixon of Rocky Mount, North Carolina; and four sisters, Sadie Cotten of Cummings, Georgia, Vergie M. Price of Walterboro, Reba Turner of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and Genevieve M. Fender of Hanahan. There are four grandchildren, Jamie Lehe Polk, Jessica Lynne Polk, Caleb Luke Bishop, and Sarah Gabrielle Bishop; as well as step-grandchildren, Jenna Coleman and Anna Bockman that also survive. She was preceded in death by a brother, Randall Mixon; and a sister, Louise Crosby.



Flowers will be accepted, or for those that wish, the family has requested that memorials be made in her memory to: Rice Patch Christian Church, for use with the cemetery fund; care of, Russell Kicklighter, 1515 Rum Gully Road, Islandton, South Carolina 29929.
