HUGHES, BETTY
WALTERBORO - Mrs. Betty Ballard Hughes, 91, of Winchester Road, Walterboro, entered into her eternal rest Wednesday evening, May 17, 2012, at the Oakwood Health Care Center in Walterboro. She was the wife of sixty-one years to the late Mr. Thomas Carlisle Hughes.
Funeral services will be conducted 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, May 20, 2012, from the graveside in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro with The Reverend Curtis Pettit officiating.
Mrs. Hughes was born January 20, 1921, in Michigan. She along with her late husband owned and operated restaurants in Florida and North Carolina as well as before retirement to Walterboro managed Hughes Motel in North Myrtle Beach. She was a member of Olympic Baptist Church in Pireway, North Carolina and also attended North Walterboro Baptist Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are: a brother-in-law, Ted Hughes and his wife Barbara of Walterboro; and two sisters, Lois Marie Counts and Dorothy Vivan Fidler both of California. There are two grandchildren that also survive. She was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas Harold Hughes and James Wayne Hughes.
Flowers will be accepted, or for those that wish, the family has respectfully requested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to: North Walterboro Baptist Church, 2177 Jefferies Highway, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Hughes, 625 Winchester Road, Walterboro, South Carolina.
