Mrs. Betty Mixson Heape, 94, of Varnville, entered into eternal rest Thursday evening, February 19, 2026, at her residence. She was the wife of the late James Cortland Heape to whom she was married 64 years.
Mrs. Heape was born on July 26, 1931, and lived a life that was a beautiful reflection of her unwavering faith and Godly character. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend to many.
She found her purpose and peace through her faith, taking strength from it in times of joy and difficulty. Her gentle spirit and love for everyone she met touched many lives. She was a true prayer warrior who loved her family and church dearly. While we grieve, we are comforted knowing she is in the presence of the Lord, free from pain and suffering.
Mrs. Heape leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness to all of her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Gail Stone (Troy) of Varnville, Angela Omeś of Early Branch, and Reneé Stanley (John) of Varnville; grandchildren, Johnny Sheffield (Cathy), Kimberly Sheffield Lankford, Heather Ayers (Ken), Shannon Stone (Todd), Katrina Grant (Michael), Jamie Stone (Faith), John Omeś (Amber), Amber Rounds (Sean), Austin Stanley, and Holly Stanley; as well as many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice M. Sheffield; a son-in-law, John R. Omes; her siblings, Rosa Nell Corbin, Reverend Curtis Mixson, Willard Mixson, Rita Bridges, Reverend Johnny Mixson, Ruth Lemacks, Margaret Mixson, Annie Lou Mixson, and Oswald Mixson.
