Mrs. Betty Ann Bennett Carroll, 76, of Green Pond Highway, Walterboro, entered into her state of eternal rest Friday evening, January 8, 2010, at her residence.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 oclock Tuesday morning, January 12, 2010, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel with The Reverend Rex Kibbler and The Reverend Ralph Warren officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Bells Highway, Walterboro.
Mrs. Carroll was born December 1, 1933 in Colleton County and was a daughter of the late John Gary Bennett and Lucy Elizabeth Harter Bennett. She was a faithful and devoted member of Evergreen Christian Church, where she was on the stewardship committee, was a church trustee and was a member of the Christian Womens Fellowship and the Adult Choir. She was also a member of Senior Friends through the Colleton Medical Center. She worked for Edwards Dime Store from 1956 until 1976, when she became the bookkeeper for Oakwood Health Care Center in Walterboro, where she worked until her retirement in 2007, completing thirty-one years of service to the nursing home, a role she never took lightly and in many instances served beyond her call of duty. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Mrs. Betty knew her as a dedicated mother and friend, who loved her Lord, her church and her work; but will always remember that never ending smile she greeted you with and her sweet spirit that let you know she truly cared for you. She was an excellent southern cook, especially known for her delicacy in Okra Rice which won a prized ribbon award from the Annual Colleton County Rice Festival. She loved flowers of all kinds, and anyone visiting her family farm seen her love and desire for growing and cultivating flowers. Betty Carroll helped many people along her path in life, and the memories she made with family and friends through her work at Oakwood and as a member of our community was always cherished in her true and giving heart.
Surviving are: her son, Jeffrey Bennett Carroll of Walterboro. There are several nieces and nephews to include a special nephew, Charles McLaughlin and his wife Rhonda of Walterboro; and three dear friends, Ena OQuinn Reed of Walterboro, Mamie Dell Avant of Walterboro, and Tammy vonLehe of Walterboro. She was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Flake Carroll; and two brothers, Woodrow Bennett and Shealey Bennett; and a sister, Dot Bennett.
