Biography

Mrs. Bessie Lee Crosby Pellum, 93, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Colleton Medical Center. She was the widow of the late John Brown "J.B." Pellum, to whom she was married for 56 years.

Funeral services will be held 1 o'clock Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel with The Reverend James W. Williams, Jr. and The Reverend Andy Garrett officiating. Interment will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, Walterboro.

Mrs. Pellum was born February 10, 1918 in Colleton County and was a daughter of the late Abram Quillie Crosby and Maggie Taylor Crosby. She was a retired machine operator for American Tobacco Company. She was member of Zion Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Lucy Way Sunday School Class, the WMU and the church choir, and was also the Sunday School Department Secretary and Assistant to the church Secretary for many years. She was also a member of the H2U Group at Colleton Medical Center, the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #147, and the Daughters of America.

Surviving are: her daughters, Loretta Pellum Smith of Summerville, Betty Lee Pellum Maxey of Smoaks and Kathryn Elizabeth Pellum Dunkley and her husband Bruce of Columbia; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the last of ten children and was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Monica Smith.
