Ms. Bessie Howell Broach, 91, of Walterboro, entered into rest Thursday morning, March 26, 2026, at Pruitt Health Care in Walterboro – a facility that Bessie worked in for many years as a nurse.
Born March 20, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Willie and Elise Howell. She, for countless years, was a Registered Nurse, having worked in several facilities throughout the Lowcountry of South Carolina. She was a faithful member of the Walterboro Church of God of Prophecy, where she was a Sunday School Teacher and had served in the church’s Mission field. Her dedication and service to her church was her life, but she was also the owner of the iconic Monograms Etcetera, a business she operated successfully from her home with excellent skill and precision.
Surviving are: three children, James Broach and his wife Carol of Mount Pleasant, Oscar Broach and his wife Beverly of Walterboro, and Charles Broach and his wife Donna of Dauphin, Alabama; six grandchildren, James “Jimmy” Broach, Angela Karen Broach, Edward Lawrence Broach, Oscar Brandon Broach, Christy Snider and Kathleen Gunnells; twelve great grandchildren; and seven siblings, Martha Gibbs, Bobbie Joye, Margaret Kelly, Jimmy Howell, Henry Howell, Leon Howell, and Bettina Buie. In addition to her former husband, Charlton R. Broach, she was preceded in death by siblings, Leona Amerson, Rebecca Crapse, Patsy Alexander, and George Howell.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30pm Sunday afternoon, March 29, 2026, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.
