Mr. Benjamin Hearl Crosby, Jr., affectionately known by all as "Buster", age 76, of Walterboro, entered into rest Wednesday evening, July 2, 2014, at his daughter's residence in Goose Creek under the care of United Hospice. He was the married to the late Mrs. Dorothy Robertson Crosby, who was the light and love of his life for forty-five years at the time of her death in 2007.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 o'clock Tuesday, July 8, 2014, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Jones Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery, Jones Swamp Road, Walterboro.
Born November 26, 1937, a native of Colleton County, he was a son of the late Benjamin Hearl Crosby, Sr. and the late Vernelle Varnadoe Crosby Craven. He served his country in the United States Navy and was retired from B&W Toms Sales, having spent thirty years in the wholesale vending industry. He was a member of Jones Swamp Pentecostal Holiness Church and was a proud member of the National Rifle Association. Buster was a friend to many and loved his family dearly. One of the greatest joys in his life and also his life's greatest dedication was attending ball games and supporting his grandson, Asher, as he has grown into a great athlete.
Surviving are: his daughter, Tina Crosby Smith and her husband, his beloved son-in-law, Mark of Goose Creek; his son, Thomas Wade Crosby; and two sisters, Betty C. Thomas and her husband William of Walterboro and Laveria Nettles of Walterboro. There are four grandchildren, Asher Smith, Wade Crosby, April Crosby, and Jeffery Crosby; and great grandchildren that also survive as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by a loving and devoted special friend, Sammy Smith; and an extended family whom he dearly loved, Mike and Debbie Mullins and their sons, Brandon, Parker, and Logan; Keith and Cindy Brant and their daughters, Kristen and Kadi Brant; Samantha Lloyd; Cassie Crangle; Donna Brant; Tyler Lares and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Edwards. He will also be greatly missed by his baseball family. He was preceded in death by his step-father who raised him from a young age following the death of his father, Mr. Lawrence Craven; a sister, Millie Avant; and a brother-in-law, C.D. Nettles.
The family wishes to extended the heartfelt appreciation to those who dedicated a great deal of time to "Buster" in his last days providing him with comfort and peace, United Hospice; Marc, Susan, Janice, Jirlea, Dr. Manos, and Caroline.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: United Hospice, 1 Poston Road, Charleston, South Carolina 29407. With love and care, they make a difference in people's lives everyday in their greatest time of need.
