Mr. Benjamin Randall Black, 93, of 8230 Augusta Highway, Smoaks, entered into eternal rest Monday morning, May 11, 2009, at his residence under the care of Hospice Care of South Carolina.



Funeral services will be conducted 11 oclock Thursday morning, May 14, 2009, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro, with Pastor Bob Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Black Family Cemetery, 6915 Augusta Highway, Smoaks.



Originally born in Smoaks, South Carolina, Randall moved to Charleston, South Carolina as a young adult. He then returned to Smoaks, where he spent the remainder of his life. He was preceded in death by Annie Lee Wilson Black, his wife and his parents and brothers and sisters.



He is survived by his four children: James Randall Black of Smoaks, Miriam Annette Stone of Anderson, Juanita Ruth Miller (Bob) of Birmingham, Alabama, and Cheryl Deanne Black (L. R. Hults) of Columbia, Missouri ; grandchildren Anthony Black, Benjamin Black (Marlaine), and Joyce Hanz (Jesse), Lisa Alcorn, Laurie Dewey (Mike), Brian Miller and Nathaniel Hults; and great-grandchildren Michael Black, Savannah Black, Benjamin Black, Jacob Hanz and Jennifer Hanz.



Randall was a master brick mason by trade. He was a member of the Brick Masons, Plasterers and Stonelayers Union #10 in Charleston. He served as secretary, treasurer, vice president and president. He had a host of hobbies and interests through the years. He owned a sawmill, raised cattle and hogs, had bees (sold honey), raised and sold catfish, grew Concord grapes for market, farmed (corn, cotton, potatoes, peanuts, beans and peas), had a number of fruit trees, grew sugar cane, and was a help to many in the community.



The family would like to express special thanks to Hospice Care of South Carolina (Nurse Kay and Nurse Pat). Special thanks also to Mable Linder and the caregivers (Abigail Williams, Gloria Murray, Tasha Sanders, Tina Jenkins, and Joyce Williams) for all of their help and support.
