Mrs. Barbara McKenzie Hiers, 87, of Ehrhardt, entered into eternal rest Tuesday morning, June 27, 2023, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Alyea Hiers, to whom she was married for 61 years.
Born January 30, 1936, in Bamberg, she was a daughter of the late James Monroe McKenzie and Inez Priester McKenzie. Mrs. Barbara worked for many years at Ehrhardt Town Hall where she was a clerk, was an Emergency Medical Technician, and was also the Administrator for both Ehrhardt Assisted Living and Allendale Assisted Living for many years. She truly enjoyed each of her jobs but will always be remembered as the owner and operator of Rachel’s Restaurant in Ehrhardt.
Mrs. Barbara was a member of St. Johns Baptist Church in Ehrhardt. She loved gardening and working with her flowers, loved going to the fishpond, attending football games with her grands, and loved taking long afternoon rides throughout the county. Most of all, she loved her family and centered her life around her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Surviving are: her children, John Alyea Hiers of Pineville, Aubrey Hiers Rosier and her husband Kenneth of Barnwell, Marty Hiers of Walterboro, and Yvonne Hiers Dobbins Williams and her husband Carl of Ehrhardt; brother, J.M. McKenzie of Lexington; sister-in-law, Marie McKenzie of Lexington; grandchildren, Crystal Hiers Ackerman (Nick), Tiffany E. Hiers, McKenzie Dobbins Reeves (John), John Bradley Hiers, Will G. Rimes, III (Krista), Haley Smith, Jason Adkins (Deanna), Brannon Faulkner (Kevin) and family, and Craig Rosier and family; great grandchildren, Riley Ackerman, Bailey Ackerman, Hadley Grace Hiers, Weston Adkins, Dylan Adkins, Tinsley Koon, Cameron Koon, Carl Williams, III, Ava Williams, Aubrey Ann Williams, and Ella Williams; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Sara Louise Caldwell, Jenny Bailey Thomas, Montye DuBose, Jackie Hiers, Lanham McKenzie, C.F. McKenzie, and James Henry Smith.
Funeral services will be held 11 o’clock, Friday morning, June 30, 2023, at St. Johns Baptist Church, 2468 St. Johns Church Road, Ehrhardt. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10 am in the church sanctuary.
