Mrs. Barbara Louise Cardwell Halden, 81, of Fort Pierce, Florida, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2009, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro, South Carolina.
Mrs. Halden was born February 26, 1928 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of the late Larry Cardwell and Babe Boyer Cardwell. Mrs. Halden was a devoted wife and mother. Her family always came first. Even after 57 years of marriage, you could see the deep love she and her husband shared. She had a great pride in the accomplishments of her spouse, children and grandchild.
Mrs. Halden was involved in leadership roles for many organizations including founding and serving as a director of the Carol City Methodist School. She was a gifted teacher who touched the lives of many children.
Authoring childrens books, interior decorating, researching family genealogy, gardening, playing the organ and making exquisite Christmas ornaments were only a few of her many talents. She loved the Lord and instilled the same value in her children. She took great pleasure in making Christmas a special time for her family.
She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved making people laugh. She had a great compassion for animals and deeply loved her dog, Sam, and her cat, Cinnamon. She often said if she hadnt become a teacher she would have liked to have been a veterinarian. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Surviving are: her husband, Ronald Tage Halden of Fort Pierce, Florida; children, Kim Halden of High Point, North Carolina and Jonathan Halden of Hollywood, Florida; granddaughter, Kaitlin Halden; and sister, Patricia Brecheen of California.
