Asbury Linder, Jr.

Ladson, South Carolina

Mr. Asbury “Buddy” Linder, Jr., 74, of Ladson, entered into rest Sunday morning, December 20, 2020, at the Ralph H. Johnson Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Charleston.

Born November 25, 1946 in Smoaks, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Asbury Linder, Sr. and the late Rena Lyons Linder.  He served our country faithfully in the United States Army as a Green Beret with Expert Infantry Marks during the Vietnam Era.  He lived in Savannah, Georgia for approximately twenty-five years before making Ladson his home to be near his beloved family.   He worked and retired as a Water Treatment Supervisor for the City of Savannah.  Buddy was a Christian and truly loved the Lord.  He attended faithfully three Sunday services, Faith Assembly in Summerville, Sonrise Christian Church in Summerville, and Moncks Corner Pentecostal Holiness.  He was an avid sports fan, supporting the South Carolina Game Cocks and the Georgia Bulldogs.  An outdoorsman, he loved hunting as well as fishing having had membership at the Vardaman Hunt Club.  He was also a member of the Thunderbolt Masonic Lodge No. 693 in Georgia and was also a Thirty-third Degree Master Mason holding membership in Scottish Rite Temple.  He was an excellent cook and baker and he specifically loved homemade banana pudding.  Some of his favorite places to eat were Duke’s Bar-be-que, Alex’s Restaurant and Po Folks.  He enjoyed brunch with his friends on a daily basis at Alex’s Restaurant.

Surviving are:  five children, Monica Rochelle Linder of Charleston, Mysteri Deigh Linder of Pinehurst, NC, Brandon Wynn Linder (Karla) of Smoaks, Lesley Amanda “Mandy” Polk (Tom) of Islandton, and Jacklynn Grace Dailey of Summerville; six grandchildren, Joshua Wynn Linder, Godwin Garrett-Linder, Violet Linder-Rivera, Rachel Fisher, Carolina Grace Dailey, and Josiah Daniel Dailey; and a great grandchild, Wyatt Russell Kriewaldt.  He is also survived by two brothers, Richard Lawrence Linder (Debbie) of Smoaks and The Reverend Gilbert Harley Linder (Joyce) of Ruffin; three sisters, Linda Linder Allen of Irmo, Diana Linder Langdale (Lewis) of Walterboro, and Martha Linder Eschmann of Illinois; and dear friends, “Pookie” and Mr. Friedman; and numerous nieces and nephews to include Shawn Langdale.  He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kayla Polk.

Funeral services with military honors will be conducted at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon, December 27, 2020, from the graveside in Hagan Cemetery, 1623 Berea Road, Smoaks, SC 29481.
