Mr. Arthur Earl Ayer, Jr., 76, of Olar, entered into eternal rest Monday afternoon, September 22, 2025, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Mary Willingham Ayer.
Born December 27, 1948, in Bamberg County, he was a son of the late Arthur Earl Ayer, Sr. and Faye All Ayer Altman Freeman. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army and then in the South Carolina Army National Guard. He retired from Savannah River Site.
Arthur Earl dearly loved his family and friends, but especially his grandchildren. He was a kind soul who was a genuine friend to all and enemy to none. He was a good neighbor, and everyone loved to congregate at his shop and fellowship with one another. He enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved cars, whether it was working on them or racing them.
Surviving are: his sons, Joseph “Joey” Earl Ayer (Lois) of Olar, and Jeffrey Ryan Ayer of Olar; grandsons, Aaron Logan Ayer and (Rebekah) and Garrett Thomas Ayer; great grandson, Gunner Lygrand Ayer; sisters, Mary Ayer Benton of Brunson and Janet Altman Ulmer (Randy) of Lodge; sisters-in-law, Rebecca Miller (Daniel), Linda Hair (Tony), and Yvonne Taylor (Paul); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Earl Ayer; and brother, Gregory Eugene Altman; and his brother-in-law, Ernest Benton.
Funeral services will be held 11 o’clock, Friday morning, September 26, 2025, at The Brice Herdon Funeral Home, Ehrhardt-Bamberg Chapel. Interment will follow in St. Johns Baptist Church Cemetery, St. Johns Church Road, Ehrhardt.
