Mrs. Annie Clayton Bishop, 95, of 645 Bishop Road, Ehrhardt, died Saturday evening, May 3, 2008, at the John E. Harter Nursing Center. She was the widow of Mr. Jerome Erman Bishop.
Funeral services will be held 2 o'clock, Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church, 1137 Mount Pleasant Road, Ehrhardt. Interment will follow in Ehrhardt Cemetery.
Mrs. Bishop was born September 16, 1912, in Ehrhardt and was the daughter of the late Laurie Rivers Clayton and Anna Bishop Clayton. She was a 1929 graduate of Ehrhardt High School and a graduate of Summerlan College. She taught music int he public schools of Bamberg and Colleton Counties for thirty years. Additionally, she tutored private piano students at her home. Mrs. Bishop shared her musical talents with her church family, having served as organist and music director of Ehrhardt Memorial Lutheran Church for forty-five years. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church. Sh was also a member of the WELCA, having served as treasurer, a member of the Dixie Garden Club, the Young at Heart and Bamberg Golden Age Club. In her spare time, Mrs. Bishop enjoyed working with her flowers (which she enjoyed sharing with others), listening to music and playing the piano and organ. She was called upon constantly to share her musical talents.
Surviving are: her sons, Reverend Henri Bishop and his wife Carolyn of Pomaria and Mr. Olin Bishop and his wife Dottie of Ehrhardt; sisters, Lois Padgett Perry of Charleston and Hannah Beard of Ehrhardt; sister-in-law, Myra B. Hills of Sullivan's Island; 4 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and 8 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Henry Clayton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church; Ehrhardt Memorial Lutheran Church; The Jerome Erman and Annie Laurie Bishop Scholarship Fund at Newberry College; or to, Ehrhardt Cemetery.
