Mrs. Dolores Puschnig Ashcraft, known as “Annette” to her friends and family, 95 of Walterboro, died Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at her residence. She was the wife of the late John Ashcraft.
Born April 4, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she was a daughter of the late Martin J. Puschnig and Helen Ratz Puschnig. She graduated from St. Florian High School and the University of Wisconsin. She had a thirst for knowledge and would study her books until they fell apart. She taught science for many years. Before becoming a teacher, she worked for an airline making sure parachutes were ready. Her responsibility was making passengers feel safe and relaxed. Most of her time was spent in Ireland.
She married her late husband, John, and they lived in Ashland, Kentucky and Scotsdale, Arizona, before making Walterboro their home. After moving to Walterboro, she began working for the Colleton County School District having taught middle school art. She also helped create the summer program for the Gifted and Talented Art and Music students. Annette composed music for piano and voice. Some of the titles were: Now That It’s Summertime and Dance Through Christmas with Me. She also played tennis with the USTA Lowcountry Tennis Association and Walterboro Tennis Association with a ranking of 3.5.
