Mrs. Anne Owens Leppard Smoak, 90, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, April 15, 2014. A resident of Walterboro, Mrs. Smoak was the widow of Senator I. A. Son Smoak, Jr., and the daughter of the late Senator James Ernest and Mrs. Anne Owens Leppard of Chesterfield, SC.
Funeral services will be held 3 oclock, Saturday afternoon, April 19, 2014 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel. Interment will follow in Live Oak Cemetery, Walterboro.
Mrs. Smoak was born in Pageland, SC, on November 12, 1923, but moved at the age of one with her parents to Chesterfield. She attended Chesterfield High School before graduating from Montreat High School, Montreat, NC, in 1940. She was chosen Miss Chesterfield of 1939. She attended Furman University before graduating from Columbia College in 1944.
Her children, Elizabeth Anne Beth S. Bozeman and Judge I. A. Andy Smoak, III, two grandchildren, Andrea Leigh Smoak and I.A. Ike Smoak, IV, and three great grandchildren, all of Walterboro, survive Mrs. Smoak. Her siblings, Senators James E. Leppard, Jr., D.D.S., of Cheraw and Edward McIver Leppard of Chesterfield predeceased her.
