Mrs. Anne Ruth Fender, 67, of 8755 Lodge Highway, Lodge, entered into her state of eternal rest Friday afternoon, September 3, 2010, at her residence following an extended illness and under the care of Odyssey Hospice.



Funeral services will be conducted 2 oclock Monday afternoon, September 6, 2010, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro with The Reverend Danny Fogle and The Reverend Spencer Brotherson officiating. Interment will follow in Carters Ford Baptist Churchyard, 6507 Lodge Highway, Lodge.



Mrs. Fender was born January 25, 1943, in Colleton County and was a daughter of the late Edward Henry Varnadoe and the late Julia Smoak Varnadoe. She was a retired supervisor from Smoaks Manufacturing and was a member of Carters Ford Baptist Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 165, where she was a Past Worthy Matron. For twenty years, she stood beside her husband in his role of Mayor and served the Lodge Community well as their First Lady. She will be fondly remembered for the love she possessed for her family as well as the love she shared with others.



Surviving are: her husband of fifty years, Mayor Roy Lovell Fender; three sons, Wayne Fender and his wife Cynthia of Islandton, Donny Fender and his wife Deanne of Smoaks, and Roy Fender and his wife Patty of Lodge; three brothers, Joe Varnadoe of Lodge, Richard Varnadoe of Ehrhardt, and Thomas Varnadoe of Lodge; and three sisters, Dorothy Ayers of Ehrhardt, June Varnadoe of Lodge, and Alice Kinard of Lodge. There are four grandchildren, Wayne Fender of Columbia, Stacey Langdale and her husband Greg of Williams, Ryan Fender of Islandton, and Heather Fender of Lodge that also survive. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Varnadoe and John Varnadoe.



Flowers will be accepted, or for those that wish, the family has respectfully requested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to: Carters Ford Baptist Church, Post Office Box 1, Lodge, South Carolina 29082.
