Alma Reeves Easterling

Mrs. Alma Reeves Easterling, age 95, of Charleston, South Carolina, a former longtime resident of Green Pond, South Carolina, entered into rest Friday, October 9, 2020, at the Roper Hospice Cottage in Mount Pleasant.  She was the wife of the late Mr. James Graham Easterling, Jr.

Born July 16, 1925, in Cottageville, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late John Fox Reeves and the late Effie Tuttle Reeves.   She worked a long a devoted career with the Farmer’s and Merchant’s Bank in Downtown Walterboro having retired on December 31, 1991 from their Operations Department.  She also for many years operated The Corner Store, an iconic locale to the people of Green Pond which was located on the corner of Ivenia Brown Road and Green Pond Highway.  She was a former member of Green Pond Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and was a member of the church’s Women’s Missionary Union.  After making Charleston her home, she became a member of Ashely River Baptist Church and had served there as a substitute Sunday School Teacher.  Alma was a true southern lady and will always be remembered for her love of gardening.

She is survived by a beloved host of nieces and nephews and extended family.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Tuesday afternoon, October 13, 2020, from Green Pond Baptist Church, 12295 Green Pond Highway, Green Pond.  The Reverend Caleb Durham, The Reverend James W. Williams, Jr., and The Reverend Ron Shearer officiating.   Interment will follow in the churchyard.    The family will receive friends prior to the funeral ceremony beginning at 11 o’clock in the church sanctuary.
