Alla Mew, Jr

HAMPTON- Alla Jan Mew, Jr., 56, of Hampton, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at Hampton Regional Medical Center.



Funeral services will be held 2 oclock, Saturday, October 18, 2008 at Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, 901 Clifton Drive, Hopewell Community, Hampton. Interment will follow in Varnville Cemetery.



Mr. Mew was born July 29, 1952 in Savannah, Georgia and was a son of the late Alla Jan Buster Mew, Sr. and Mildred Doran Mew. He served his country in the United States Army as an MP in the Intelligence Division. Jan worked for many years for Smith Oil Company and Gas Station and then went to work for Southland Exchange and Joint Venture. At the end of his working career, he was employed as a Correctional Officer with the South Carolina Department of Corrections in Allendale. A devote Christian, he was an active member of Cornerstone Christian Fellowship. Jan loved and enjoyed making repairs of all types for everyone in the community. A man that loved to laugh, he never met a stranger and loved meeting new people and talking to everyone. He will be remembered for his love of helping his fellow man.



Surviving are: his wife, Karen Bennett Mew of Hampton; children, Alla Jan Mew, III and his companion, Centreatia Brown of Varnville and Stephine Williams and her husband Joseph of Varnville; granddaughter, Autumn Williams; brother, Eddie Mew and his wife Carolyn of Brunson; sister, Lynda Tuten and her husband Willard of Beaufort; and his best friend, Raymond G. Smith of Hampton. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cherish Autumn Mew; and a grandson, Alla Jan Mew, IV.
