Mr. Thomas Everett Pope, Sr., 84, of Brunson, entered into rest Monday, June 10, 2019 at Trident Medical Center.
Born January 10, 1935 in Hampton County, he was the son of the late John Hagood Pope, Sr. and Inez Cook Pope Houston. After living in an orphanage, he was adopted by David Cameron “Moley” Mole and Tillar Priester Mole. He served as a Corporal in the South Carolina Army National Guard for 10 years. He was a member of Sandy Run Baptist Church. Mr. Pope was a master carpenter having worked for Clark & Company and Brunson Construction, retired at age 72. He was a very talented carpenter and could make anything from a drawing. He was the toughest man you would ever meet who loved deeply, hurt easily and never knew how to quit. He lived the life he wanted and became the man he was on his own.
Surviving are: his wife, Cathy Bowers Pope of Brunson; daughter, Annette Bowers Griswold of Brunson; son, Jeremy Lee Bowers of Hampton; grandchildren, Thomas Everett Pope, III of Hampton, Summer Pope Rennow of Texas, Samantha Pope Segars of Hampton, Nicole Pope of Nixville, Richard David Pope, Jr. of Hampton, Kristina Pope Barnes of Garnett, David Cameron Pope of Greenville, Jessica Pope of Orlando, Florida, Autumn Grace Griswold of Brunson, and Trenton Lee Bowers of Hampton; 25 great grandchildren; brother, Charles Franklin Pope, Sr. and his wife Stella of San Antonio, Texas; three special cousins, Pippi Tuten of Varnville, Eugene McMurray of Brunson, and Selena Stone of Brunson; many nieces and nephews, including a very special nephew, Sammy Hart and his wife Phyllis of Palm Harbor, Florida; and close family friends, Michelle Miller, Ned and Annadean Phillips and Dr. Luis Vega. He was preceded in death by his sons, Thomas Everett “Skeeter” Pope, Jr. and Richard David “Ricky” Pope, Sr.; brother, Leon Pope; and sister, Bertha Alice Pope Hart.
Funeral services will be held 2 o’clock, Sunday afternoon, June 16, 2019 at The Brice Herndon Funeral Chapel, Varnville. Interment will follow in Nixville Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery.
