Mr. Thomas Harold Bennett, 87, of Walterboro, entered into rest Tuesday afternoon, October 15, 2019, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.
Born November 10, 1932, in Walterboro, he was a son of the late John Wesley Bennett and the late Ethel Craven Bennett. He served in the South Carolina National Guard and was a lifelong mechanic. He began working alongside his father and brother in the family business, Bennett’s Garage, on Green Pond Highway in Walterboro and continued on with his mechanical skills all though his working career. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was an active member of Evergreen Christian Church.
Surviving are: his wife of sixty-six years, Mrs. Marguerite O’Quinn Bennett; a son, Thomas Harold Bennett, Jr. and his wife Terri Ann of Summerton; a daughter, Cindy Bennett Lyons and her husband Anthony of Walterboro; and a brother, Roy Bennett of Walterboro. There are five grandchildren, Leigh Ann Kellam, Leslie Bishop, Hunter Thomas, Laura Bennett, and Maggie Bennett; two step-grandchildren, Jonathan Lyons and Chasity Lyons; five great grandchildren, Thomas, Addison, Layla, Will, and Bennett; and three step-great grandchildren, Taylor, English, and Nathan that also survive along with a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, J. W. Bennett and Olin Bennett; and a sister, Thelma Bennett Dukes.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: Evergreen Christian Church, Post Office Box 1686, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 o’clock Thursday afternoon, October 17, 2019, from the graveside at Live Oak Cemetery, South Jefferies Boulevard, Walterboro. The Reverend Wayne Lucas officiating. The family will greet guests following the ceremony at the graveside.
