Ted Hughes

Mr. Ted Hughes, 89, of Walterboro, passed away Monday, June 4, 2018 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 o’clock, Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at North Walterboro Baptist Church, 2177 Jefferies Highway, Walterboro.  Interment will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.

Born May 3, 1929 in Tabor City, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Bonnie Hughes and Agnes Spivey Hughes.  He was a retired manager of Pioneer Machinery in Walterboro and Estill.  He was a member of North Walterboro Baptist Church.  Mr. Ted was an honest, hard-working man who was generous to everyone.  He enjoyed being a part of the Hardee’s Coffee Club, but most of all, he loved his family and his little dog, Precious.

Surviving are: his wife, Barbara McCarthy Hughes of Walterboro; children, Wayne T. Hughes and his wife Cheryl Ann of Lexington and Candace Grant and her husband Jeff of Walterboro; grandchildren, Mary Beth Fry of West Virginia, Holly Bottomley of Walterboro, Teddy Bottomley of Columbia, Tiffany Smith of Goose Creek, Marcus Hughes of Lakeland, Georgia, Kim Kennamer of Lexington, Alex Beasley of Brooklet, Georgia, and Becca Grant of Walterboro; and 11 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by children, Mark Hughes, Sherrill Bottomley, and Melissa Wassing; brother, Thomas Carlisle Hughes; and sister, Winiford Pleasants.
