Mr. James Stephen Blocker, affectionately known by all as “Stevie”, age 64, entered into rest Saturday afternoon, April 28, 2018, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Walterboro, while under the care of Amedisys Hospice. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Jeanne Blocker.
Born December 31, 1953, in Walterboro, he was a son of David Kermit Blocker and Roberta Rilee Blocker. He was employed by Westvaco, where he worked for forty-three years retiring after the company became Kapstone. Stevie was well known for his love of horses and livestock. He was an icon at the Walterboro Stock Yards, where over the years he made an innumerous amount of friends due to his hard work and dedication. In 1988, because of dear friend Royce Herndon, he started his own horse and livestock hauling business. His greatest pleasure in life was his experience of raising cows and having horses.
He was raised in his family’s home church, Cottageville Baptist Church. His love for the outdoors was known by all, and he also dearly enjoyed hunting, having held memberships in Jenkins Hunting Club in Cottageville and Wolfe Creek Still Hunting Club in Walterboro.
Surviving in addition to his mother of Oregon are: two daughters, Melissa Reeves and her husband Kirby of Cottageville and Jodi Pfeffer of Walterboro; a brother, David Blocker and his wife Rita of Cottageville; and three sisters, Bonnie Youmans of Ridgeville, Sherry Driggers and her husband Robert of Round O, Laurie Ammons of Round O. There are five grandchildren, Nikki Reeves Nettles and her husband Ricky, Brittany Pfeffer Johnson and her husband Kerry, Jacob Reeves and his wife Suzi, Lindsey Pfeffer and her husband Justin, and Christa Baker; as well as nine great grandchildren, McKenzie, Lee, Bailey, T.J., Mason, Caroline, Whitney, Carter, and Heidi.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 o’clock Tuesday morning, May 1, 2018, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Buck Reeves and Mr. David Blocker officiating. Interment will follow in Cottageville Cemetery, Old Jacksonboro Road, Cottageville.
