Ronald Strickland

Mr. Ronald Howard Strickland, 85, of Ruffin, died Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Colleton Medical Center. 


Funeral services will be held 3 o’clock, Thursday afternoon, January 11, 2018 at The Brice Herndon Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.  Interment will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.

 

Born September 28, 1932 in Colleton County, he was a son of the late Asher Strickland and Allene Hagan Strickland.  He served his country in the United States Army in the 82nd Airborne Division.  He was an iron worker having retired from Savannah River Plant in 1995.  During his career as an iron worker, he was involved with the construction of Colleton Medical Center and Williams Brice Stadium in Columbia.  He was a faithful member of St. Johns United Methodist Church, where he was formerly a church trustee.  He was also a member of the Bells Masonic Lodge, No. 236-Ancient Free Masons, where he was a member of the craft for 63 years.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing, was a member of Ruffin Hunting Club; and in his younger years enjoyed coaching community softball and Little League Teams.

 

Surviving are: his wife of 65 years, Percille Babb Strickland of Ruffin; children, Marilyn Strickland Wolfe and her husband Dennis of Summerville, James Ronald Strickland and his wife Libby of Ruffin, Joseph Allen Strickland and his wife Sherry of Smoaks, and Howard Craig Strickland and his wife Penny of Ruffin; grandchildren, Alisha Fender (Casey), Erica Erwin(Billy), Julie Riley (Robert), Jamie Breland (Willie), Angela Maxey (Wes), Josh Bailey (Bree), and Danielle Strickland; 10 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and sisters, Aquilla Lyons of Smoaks, Judy Jeffcoat of Vidalia, Georgia, Sara Lyons of Smoaks, and Peggy Langston of North Augusta.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Strickland; sister, Oletta Strickland; sister-in-law, Martha Steedley; and a brother-in-law, Charles Babb.


The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in to: St. John’s United Methodist Church, care of Cherry Smyly 987 Smyly Road, Ruffin, South Carolina 29475.
