Patricia Blitch Obituary

Ms. Patricia Anne Herndon Blitch, 72, of Walterboro, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, August 7, 2018 in Walterboro.

 

Funeral services will be held 2 o’clock, Saturday afternoon, August 11, 2018 at The Brice Herndon Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.  Interment will follow in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 99 Pine Grove Road, Walterboro.

 

Born April 24, 1946 in Colleton County, she was a daughter of the late Tal H. Herndon, Sr. and Gladys Searson Herndon.  After graduating from Bells High School she moved to Charleston where she had made her home for the last 50 years.  When she decided she was tired of the rat race, she moved back home to Colleton County to start a new adventure. 

 

Ms. Blitch retired from the Department of Defense Southern Division Naval Facilities Engineering Command with numerous accolades.  She was the President of the South Carolina Order of the Confederate Rose; Past President of the Order of the Confederate Rose Mary Yates Snowden Chapter #3 supporting SCV Secession Camp # 4, Charleston; Roll Call of the Dead Chairman for South Carolina Confederate Soldiers Lost in War; and was a member of the South Carolina Order of the Confederate Rose Black Rose Society.  Ms. Blitch was a Past President and Member of the South Carolina Ladies Auxiliary, Charleston Associate Member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy; Board Member of Battle of Secessionville, Boone Hall Plantation; and Board Member of Confederate Ghost Walk, Magnolia Cemetery; participated in The Citadel Archeological dig for the recovery of Confederate Soldiers; member of the South Carolina Battleground Preservation Trust; and member of the Confederate Heritage Trust.

 

Ms. Blitch was a member and volunteer of The Friends of The Hunley and was a movie extra on The Hunley Documentary.  She was licensed cosmetologist and was an award-winning member of the Women in Construction, Charleston Chapter.  She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, No.1. 

 

Surviving are: her sister, Shirley Herndon Bailey of Walterboro; sister-in-law, Vicky Craven Herndon of Walterboro; great aunt, Margie Nettles Searson of Ruffin; nieces, Karen Hudson Crosby, Denise Bailey Perry, Katie Evonne Herndon, Samantha Herndon Hiott, and Paisley Polk Elliott; nephews, Brent Bailey, Shane Polk, Michael Lee Herndon, Jr. and Jonathan Herndon; numerous great and great great nieces and nephews; as well as a host of close personal family and professional friends.  She was preceded in death by her sisters, Paula Herndon Polk, Helen Herndon Hudson, and Brenda Raye Herndon; and brothers, Michael Lee Herndon, Sr. and Tal H. “Sonny” Herndon, Jr.
