Ned Martin

Mr. James Eddie Martin, known by all as “Ned”, age 76, of Lodge, entered into rest Tuesday afternoon, August 28, 2018, at his daughter’s home in Lodge.  He was the loving and devoted husband of fifty years to Mrs. Betty Jean O’Quinn Martin at the time of her death in July 2011. 

Born December 2, 1941, in Colleton County, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Samuel and Willie Mae Walling Martin.   Ned dedicated his life and career to commercial construction.  He retired from Piggly Wiggly of America , where he worked interior decoration construction, having oversaw the remodeling and construction of many their franchise locations.   He was a member of Peniel Baptist Church and Barnes Hunting Club in Islandton.  He will be fondly remembered for passion in watching old western movies and for the special joy he possessed in riding his puppies on his golf cart.

Surviving are: four children, Beverly Hardee and her husband Ricky of Lodge, James Eddie "Bubba" Martin, Jr. and his wife Felecia of Lodge, Penny Hutto and her husband Mike of Walterboro, and Ricky Martin and his wife Virginia of Lodge; and two sisters, Gloria Smith of Ehrhardt and June Long of Hampton.  He is also survived by twelve grandchildren along with nine great grandchildren with two expected in the near future; and his fur baby, “Louise” .  He was preceded in death by an infant son, Sam Edward Martin; a brother, Samuel Martin; and four sisters, Rosa Lee Fowler, Jeanie Priester, Doris Fralix, and Sandy Cook. 

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Hospice of Charleston, especially Danielle Johnson and Cora Jones for the love and care they so selfishly provided to Mr. Martin. 

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: Peniel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 37 Forks Road, Islandton, South Carolina 29929.  

Funeral services will be conducted 11 o’clock Thursday morning, August 30, 2018, from the Peniel Baptist Church, 37 Forks Road, Islandton.  The Reverend Gerald Mabry and The Reverend Terry Hiers officiating.  Interment will follow in the churchyard.  The family will receive friends prior to the funeral ceremony Thursday morning beginning at 10 o’clock in the church sanctuary.
