Mary Raymond Hiers

Mrs. Mary Raymond Hiers, 83, of Lodge, passed away Monday morning, December 9, 2019, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.  She was the wife of the late Mr. Albert P. Hiers, Sr.

Born August 8, 1936, in Colleton County, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Julius Raymond and the late Vera Georgann Suggs Raymond.  She worked a long and dedicated career with the Colleton County Health Department where she worked teaching nutrition, serving as a Certified Nursing Assistant and assisting Physicians.  She was of the Holiness faith and was a member of the South Carolina State Employee Association.   She will always be remembered as a loving and giving person who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  

Surviving are: her children, Albert Preston Hiers, Jr. (Rose) of Lodge, James Cox of Trenton, Rose Mary Carter (Jerry) of Lodge and Alberta Holiday (Rock) of Manning; one she raised as a son, Joe Rhodes; 14 grandchildren; and twenty-two great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by two daughters, Marie Hickman, who preceded her in death the day prior to hers, and Judy Strickland; and a son, Joe Hiers.

Her funeral service, along with her daughter Marie’s, will be conducted at 11 o’clock, Thursday morning, December 12, 2019, at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.  The Reverend Spencer Brothersom officiating.   Her interment will follow at 3 o’clock that afternoon in Bedon Baptist Churchyard, 2410 Cottageville Highway, Walterboro.
