Mr. Marshall Allen Ulmer, 83, of Ruffin, entered into rest Monday evening, April 30, 2018, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.
Born December 16, 1934, in Colleton County, South Carolina, he was a son of the late James Breland Ulmer and the late Della Crosby Ulmer. He spent a long and faithful career in road construction, having started as a motor grader operator, which was his specialty, and eventually retiring as a foreman. He was a member of Tabor United Methodist Church in Ruffin. Mr. Marshall was known for his gardening and the love he possessed for sharing the harvest of his crops with others. He also possessed a special love for tractors. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his greatest passion in life.
Surviving are: his wife of fifty-eight years, Mrs. Patsy Varnadoe Ulmer; a daughter, Vickie Ulmer Phillips and her husband The Reverend Lee Phillips of Aiken; four grandchildren, Mindy Phillips Sandifer and her husband Benji, Lee Phillips and his wife Ellen, Dr. Tiffany Phillips, Chelsey Phillips Hayes and her husband Jeremiah; as well as six great grandchildren. He also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 3 o’clock Thursday afternoon, May 3, 2018, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Cheri Yates and The Reverend Jerry Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Tabor United Methodist Churchyard.
