John Thomas Stieglitz, Jr.

Mr. John Thomas Stieglitz, Jr., 73, entered into rest Saturday afternoon, April 28, 2018, with his devoted wife of fifty-one years, Mrs. Kathy Phelps-Stieglitz at his side in his home in Walterboro. 

Born November 11, 1944 in Walterboro, South Carolina, he was a son of the late John Thomas Stieglitz, Sr. and the late Alma Jones Stieglitz.   He was a graduate of St. Andrews High School in Charleston and also attended Clemson University.  He served in the United States Army Reserves.  He followed in his dads footsteps in the retail and sales industry.  He was well known because of his hard work and dedication, giving many their first employment in the work world, while impressing upon them the importance of hard work.  His last work was at the Walterboro Wal-Mart where he finished his career in retail management.   He was a member of the Mount Carmel United Methodist Church in Walterboro.  He loved and never missed his Saturday morning breakfast club at the Olde House Café and he will always be remembered for his love of Clemson, especially the Clemson Tigers.

Surviving in addition to his wife are: four children, John Thomas “Johnny” Stieglitz, III and his wife Robin J. of Walterboro, Tammy Lynette Stieglitz of Goose Creek, Jason Frederick Stieglitz and his wife Elizabeth K. of Summerville, and Jarrett Audie Phelps Stieglitz and his wife Lindsay K. of Central; a sister, Mary Stieglitz Solomon of Charleston; and seven grandchildren, Seslie Marie Stieglitz, Madison Caitlin Stieglitz, Jase O’Niel Stieglitz, Megan Katherine Stieglitz-Martin, Kayliegh Brooke Stieglitz, Jacob Thomas Stieglitz, and Jameson Kay Stieglitz.   He is also survived by three nephews. 

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to:  Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, c/o Maxine Beach  965 Burlington Road,  Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.  

A private graveside service will be held on the family plot at Live Oak Cemetery in Walterboro with The Reverend John Woods officiating.
