Mr. James Owen O’Kelley, 83, entered into rest Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at the Veteran’s Victory House in Walterboro.
Born April 22, 1935 in Asheville, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Owen Edward O’Kelley and Margaret Lorine English O’Kelley. Mr. O’Kelley served his country faithfully in the United States Army for 28 years, where he was a Special Forces Airborne Ranger. During his service in the Army, he received many commendations and medals including the Purple Heart. After retirement, he became a Captain for the Salvation Army in Jacksonville, North Carolina and Georgetown, South Carolina.
Surviving are: his wife of 60 years, Joyce McClurg O’Kelley of Conway; son, Patrick James O’Kelley of Lillington, North Carolina; daughter-in-law, Alice Rose O’Kelley; grandchildren, Cailin O’Kelley, Adelise O’Kelley, and Katrianne O’Kelley; sister, Owena Chambers of Sun Lakes, Arizona; special friend, Bette Bryson of Conway; and one that he loved as a daughter, Julie Ryan of Hamstead, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his son, Sean O’Kelley.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
