Mr. John Laurie Richardson, known affectionately by all as “Jack”, age 82, of Lilly Street North in Estill, entered into rest Wednesday afternoon, June 6, 2018, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
Born February 7, 1936, in Bamberg County, he was the son of the late Laurie B. Richardson and the late Gladys Rivers Richardson. He served our Country faithfully in the United States Air Force, and retired after twenty-nine years of dedicated service as an inspector from Westinghouse Corporation in Hampton. Following his retirement, he was a security guard with Georgia Pacific and then volunteered with the Hampton Regional Medical Center where he was a well-known and beloved icon.
He was a faithful member of Hopewell Baptist Church, where he was a former member of the Choir, served as a deacon, and was part of the Men’s Ministry. He loved music and was self-taught to play the keyboard as well as the guitar. He dearly loved his two cats, “Thomas” and “Tabby”.
Surviving are: his wife of fifty-two years, Mrs. Dora Elise Crapse Richardson; and his loving family, Shelia “Sissy” Floyd and her husband Timothy of Estill, Denise “Neise” Huffman and her husband Larry of Estill, Christopher Kent Mixson, Ashley, and Hannah of Hampton, and Wayne Ball and his wife Judy of Lexington. He is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy Hiers of Ehrhardt and Faye Long of Crocketville. He was preceded in death by his son in 2013, Sidney “Bubba” Rivers.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon, June 9, 2018, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Varnville. The Reverend Frank Hyde and The Reverend D.W. Feaster officiating. Interment will follow in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery, 6404 Hopewell Road, Hampton.
