Greg Spivey

Mr. Gregory Daniel Spivey, known by all as “Greg”, age 73, entered into eternal rest Friday, November 15, 2019, at his home in Walterboro.

Born July 21, 1946, in Mullins, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Theodore Clement Spivey and the late Helen Page Spivey.   Greg worked hard all of his life and was best known for Boxing and his involvement in the Mixed Martial Arts world.   He was a member of Doctor’s Creek Baptist Church where he was active in many aspects of the church’s work.  At his beloved church, he volunteered with the annual Vacation Bible School, was a member of the church choir, and will always be remembered for his faithfulness in calling church members on their birthdays.  He loved all people, helping anyone that he could and never meeting a stranger.

Surviving are: his wife of twenty-one years, Mrs. Laura McMillan Spivey; two children, Chris Spivey and Hope R. Spivey of North Carolina; five brothers, Noel Spivey of Florence, Kenneth Spivey and Jimmy Spivey both of Asheboro, North Carolina, Hampton L. Spivey of Ramseur, North Carolina, and Brian Spivey of Julian, North Carolina; and numerous grandchildren; as well as beloved host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by two sons, Scott Spivey and Chuck Spivey; and two brothers, Darrel Spivey and George Spivey. 

Funeral services will be conducted 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, November 19, 2019, from Doctor’s Creek Baptist Church, 126 Doctor’s Creek Road, Walterboro.  Interment will follow in the churchyard.   The family will receive friends prior to the funeral ceremony beginning at 1 o’clock that afternoon in the church sanctuary.
