Mr. Gary Edward Harter, 70, of Ruffin, entered into rest Saturday afternoon, October 20, 2018, at the Veteran’s Victory House in Walterboro.
Born July 17, 1948, in Beaufort County, he was a son of the late John Dexter Harter and the late Eunice Bryant Gulledge and a step-son of the late Howard Leon Gulledge. He served our country faithfully in the United States Navy and was a retired from the Maintenance Department at Laurel Bay. He was a member of Doctor’s Creek Baptist Church in Walterboro and was formerly active in the Men’s Fellowship. He will always be remembered for the love he possessed for being on his Pontoon Boat in Beaufort and fishing. He also enjoyed many wonderful memory filled trips to Pidgeon Forge, Tennessee.
Surviving are: his life partner of thirty years; Mrs. Barbara McLendon Hudson and her children, Sharon Ryan (Harry), and David Hudson (Jessica); grandchildren, Katrina Ryan, Spencer Hudson, and Jessica Lovell; and great grandchild, Olivia Grace Ryan. He is survived by three brothers, Buddie Harter, Gerald Harter, and Harold Harter; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a step-son, Bobby Hudson; brothers, Victor, Charlie, and Richard; and sisters, Carol, Evelyn, Audrey, and Judy.
A memorial service will held 2 pm, Saturday, January 19, 2019 at The Brice Herndon Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.
