Terven Amerson Obituary

Mr. Terven Amerson, 82, of Walterboro, flew into the arms of Jesus Wednesday evening, October 14, 2020.

Born May 9, 1938 in Manatee, Florida, he was a son of the late Appleton Green Amerson and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Willis Thigpen.  From a very early age he had a deep love for his country that led him to serve in the United States Army where he was a C130 Flight Engineer.  After serving in the Army, he worked as a mechanic at Fordville in Swainsboro, taught automotives at the Bradwell Institute in Hinesville and then worked at Southern Air. His service to his country continued as he joined the United States Air Force Georgia Air National Guard.  He ended his career at Transafrik International.

His service went far beyond his service to his country.  He was a faithful member of Grace Advent Christian Church, where he served as a Deacon and was on the Board of Trustees.  He was a member of the Nell Herndon Sunday School Class and every Sunday morning had their coffee and breakfast ready for them.  He loved participating and helping with everything that went on at the church, whether it was folding bulletins, fixing something that was broken, or helping out his dear friend and Pastor, Wayne Lucas.  Anyone who knew “Poppy”, as he was affectionately known, knew that he couldn’t sit still and loved fixing things.  He was always working on lawnmowers, weed eaters, and anything else that you needed.  He loved restoring old tractors.  Most of all, Poppy loved his family.  He cherished his time with his children and grandchildren, always making sure he was at their ballgames and other school events.  He was kindhearted, compassionate, and genuinely loved everyone.

Surviving are: his wife, Martha “Nan” Scarboro Amerson of Walterboro; children, Jana and Perry Ramsey, Marnie and Jeff Dekle, Marc and Hillary Amerson, and Angela Amerson; grandchildren, Ashley Ramsey (Andrew), Marcus Ramsey, Marley Dekle, Seth Dekle, Jack Burchfield, Natalie Burchfield, Jason Krause, and Jonah Krause; great grandchildren, Jude Krause and Eisley Krause; sisters, Imogene Buckley, Audrey Faircloth, and Mary Wilson; special sisters-in-law, Margie Jones, Jean Jones, and Carol Jackson; a special friend that he mentored and loved, Ricky Rosemann; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends that dearly loved him.  He was preceded in death by three special brothers-in-law, Kent Jones, Jim Buckley, and Berlie Henry; a special sister-in-law, Adele Chalker; and his siblings, Inell Amerson Henry, Eugene Amerson, Lorenza Amerson, and Lorease Amerson.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to: Grace Advent Christian Church, 398 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488; or the Honor Flight Savannah, Inc, 1943 Spring Branch Church Road, Baxley, Georgia 31329.
